Hydeabad, August 10: A father and son were arrested by the city police today for committing thefts. The five-member gang included a couple, and their two sons and son-in-law. The kingpin of the gang is 48-year-old Pasupuleti Ramulu alias Rambabu alias Ramu who hails from Prakasam district. He belongs to Telaga Pamula community which is notorious for committing thefts and other offences.
Ramulu and his family who migrated to the city, are residing at Bhupesh Gupta Nagar at Karmanghat. “Ramulu used to encourage his other family members and also people from his native place to commit property offences.
Ramulu, who has an auto, used to visit busy areas like Madannapet, Koti, Sultan Bazar, IS Sadan and other public places along with his family members. On the pretext of helping elderly people at busy markets, they would steal mobile phones and handbags, ’’ Central Crime Station (South Zone) inspector G Venkateswarlu said.
CCS sleuths arrested Ramulu and his 20-year-old son P Mahesh and recovered nine mobile phones from them. Ramulu’s wife Janaki, their son Shiva and son-in-law Suresh, who are part of the gang, are absconding.
“Though the recovery of valuables is small, we could bust the gang which was committing offences in an organised manner,’’ a CCS official said.
Ramulu was earlier arrested by the Nacharam and Kushaiguda police and CCS sleuths for stealing mobile phones. He came out recently after completing his prison sentence and formed the gang with his family members, the CCS official said.
