Man sets sleeping wife on fire and the reason is shocking

Pollachi: In yet another case of brutality against women, a 40-year-old man set his wife on fire while she was sleeping.

Kumar, a laborer, set his wife, Uma Maheswari, on fire when she irritates him to take her to their native village for Pongal festival.

According the police, on Monday night, Kumar doused his wife with kerosene and set her ablaze when their two sons Maruthupandi (13) and Veerapandi (11), were sleeping in their house in Kullakapalayam.

Police also said that Kumar took this step after quarrelling with his wife. They quarreled when Uma Maheswari asked him to take the family to their native village and Kumar said her that he had no money.

However, after heated argument, when Uma went to sleep with her sons, in the midnight, Kumar set his wife on fire when she was sleeping. When she started screaming, Kumar fled.

When neighbours listen her cries, rescued her and took her to a nearby hospital. Later, she was shifted to the Government hospital in Coimbatore. As she suffered 60% burns, she is battling for life.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case and launched a hunt for her husband.
