Man sentenced to five years RI in 1990 time bomb case

Chennai, December 04: A designated TADA court today sentenced a man to five years rigorous imprisonment in a case relating to planting of a time bomb on the lawns of Tamil Nadu secretariat in 1990 where then Prime Minister V P Singh and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi were attending a meeting.

“I have come to the conclusion that the prosecution has established its case against the accused,” designated TADA Judge A K Annamalai said.

Raja alias Iyyappan, along with two others, was charged with writing a slogan ‘Tamilar Easarai’ on a paper and keeping it near a time bomb which was planted in a jerry can by another accused. The bomb was, however, noticed by police and defused before any damage could be done.
