Man saves pregnant wife from rape attempt

Anonymous men made an attempt to rape a woman in her advanced stage of pregnancy near Government Maternity Hospital, Nayapul, on Sunday night. Her husband was also stabbed by them when he fought to save her.

The victims are Ramakrishna, 30year-old, a farmer by profession from Mahbubnagar district, and his eight-month-pregnant wife. As his wife was unwell, Ramakrishna brought her to the city on March 12 and admitted her at the Government Maternity Hospital.

On Sunday, at 10.30 pm, the couple went to Musi riverbed near the hospital to attend to the call of nature. It was there that five scoundrels, who were consuming whitener, noticed them. The gang confronted the couple about their relationship and tried to rape the pregnant woman. The couple raised an alarm and as soon as Ramakrishna opposed the gang’s attempts to assault his wife, the miscreants stabbed him with a knife in the chest, face and hands before fleeing.

Ramakrishna and his wife subsequently returned and alerted the staff at the hospital. Since the crime scene was located between Afzalgunj, Charminar and Shahinayatgunj police stations, which belong to three different police zones, there was a lot of confusion on who should register a case.

At last, when media channels began flashing news saying that citing jurisdictional issues police were not ready to accept the complaint, Shahinayatgunj police registered a case.

A case was registered under sections 354 (Assault or use of criminal force to outrage the modesty of a woman) and 307 (Attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on the complaint lodged by the couple.

Police are reported to have deatained four suspects and they were being interrogated.
