Man running unofficial study centre arrested

Jason D’Souza, 28, a resident of Yelahanka New Town was arrested by RT Nagar police for cheating students by issuing them fake certificates. He was allegedly running a study centre against the law.

As per police, Jason had advertised that his study centre – Ashirvad Vidya Kendra in HMT Layout, RT Nagar – was affiliated to different universities, boards and institutions of higher education, claiming to offer programmes sponsored by the Board of Secondary Education and Madhya Bharath Gwalior University. Many had enrolled for PU and appeared for exams.

They were issued fake certificates, the police said.

The devious act came to light after a student sought admission to graudation course in a City college, and her application was rejected after the college found her certificate fake. The student filed a complaint with the police who conducted a probe and arrested Jason.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Jason had no permission to run the study centre and that it was not recognisedby any university or board in India. He had issued about 30 fake certificates, the police said.

Parents and students to be cautious of such fake study centres. The authenticity of study centres could be verified at educational boards added City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar
