Man robbed of Rs 5.30 lakh at gunpoint

New Delhi: A man was allegedly robbed of Rs 5.30 lakh at gunpoint by unidentified bike-borne persons in northwest Delhi’s Bharat Nagar area, police said today.

Ramesh, an employee of a software firm, was going towards Karol Bagh on his motorcycle yesterday when the incident took place. He was carrying a bag containing Rs 5.30 lakh in cash, which belonged to the company, to make certain payments, they said.

When he was near Satyawati College, two bike-borne men overtook his motorcycle, snatched the money from him after brandishing their weapons and fled from the spot, police said.

Ramesh made a PCR call and also informed the owner of the software company about the incident. A case has been registered and police are scanning the CCTV footages from the area to identify the accused, they said.

It is suspected that a gang, which was recently involved in a robbery of Rs 15 lakh, could be behind this incident.

However, police have not ruled out the possibility of involvement of someone who might have known that Ramesh was carrying the cash.
