New Delhi: Hindutva activist Amit Jani who threatened to gun down the JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and research scholar Umar Khalid claimed that weapon recovered was actually meant to be used to kill AIMIM President and MP Asaduddin Owaisi.
The country-made pistol found inside a DTC bus at the JNU campus on Thursday, April 14 with a letter threatening to kill Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid.
According to a report published in The Wire, Jani, on Monday in his Whatsapp message said he purchased two 9 MM pistol and a .32 pistol and ammunition in September 2015.
he had planned to attack Owaisi at the Daurala toll plaza when he visited Muzaffarnagar to campaign for the AIMIM candidate for the assembly by-election.
However, he cancelled his whole plan as the AIMIM had withdrawn its candidate from the assembly by-election.
The Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena chief Amit Jani has been regularly issuing several controversial statements declaring his intention to gain publicity.
With the assistance of his “boys” he had been keeping an eye on Owaisi’s residence. But then the JNU episode happened, so thought to “instil fear” in the heart and mind of those he felt had raised anti-national slogans.
Saurabh is the younger brother of Amit Jani, who is purported to have written the letter threatening to behead Kumar and Khalid.
The Delhi police are still searching for Jani, who is believed to have gone underground since Friday and police are conducting raids in Delhi-NCR to nab him, an official said.
