Man, nephew murdered over land dispute with relatives

Pune, July 13: A man and his nephew were murdered, allegedly by their relatives over a land row near Rohkal Phata in Chakan on Saturday afternoon.

According to information given by the rural police, they were killed by hitting them with sticks and stones on a hillock .

They two, Dnyanoba Parkhi (35) and Pandharinath Sadashiv Parkhi (55) were residents of Maan village in Mulshi taluka and had gone to Chakan on Saturday.

The duo first visited the livestock market and then the house Pandharinath’s daughter on Chakan-Rohkal Road. They left in the afternoon and were returning home when eight people on motorcycles forced their jeep to stop on Chakan Rohkal Road, police sources said.

They threatened the other occupants of the jeep and shooed them away. Pandharinath’s friend Raghunath Damu Parkhi was roughed up before he was allowed to run away. After that, they pulled the duo out of the jeep and thrashed them.

Soon a crowd gathered. The accused then put the duo back in the jeep and drove towards a secluded hillock near Rohkal Phata.

There, they again dragged the two out of the jeep, hit them with stones and sticks, according to the police. Pandharinath’s body was found in the the jeep and Chandrakant’s body in the bushes nearby.

Some people alerted the police.

Police inspector Suresh Ghadge and a team of cops reached the pot. Dog squads were pressed into service to track down the killers. The police have taken fingerprints from the spot.

Pandharinath’s son Sandeep Parkhi registered a complaint with the police. He stated that he suspected that their relatives had killed his father over a land dispute. “Prima facie, it is the fallout of a land dispute,” said Ghadge.

After investigations, the police have arrested 10 relatives of Pandharinath, including Sunil Parkhi, Ankush, Nivrutti, Vijay, Nitin, Sanjay, Raju and Sunil. The rural police are investigating the case.
