New delhi, February 09: It was a sum of Rs 500 that provoked a group of four youths to kill a resident of Jagatpura Colony in Phase XI late evening.
Lakhbeer Singh, in his mid-20s, who worked as a painter, was stabbed to death in the colony when he was standing with one Sukhbir Singh, Phase XI SHO Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder Singh told.
While the main accused Umesh, in his early 20s, of the same locality, was arrested, his three other accomplices Tony and Rakesh from the same colony and Rajinder alias Radhey from Bapu Dham Colony in Chandigarh, all in their early 20s, are still on the run.
The SHO said Radhey had come to the colony to attend a wedding party and met Umesh, who was with Tony and Rakesh, when they spotted Lakhbeer talking to Sukhbir.
“Umesh was nursing a grudge against Lakhbeer as he had been demanding back Rs 500 which was lent to him.
Umesh along with his three accomplices then attacked Lakhbeer and stabbed him with a knife before fleeing the spot,” the SHO, who is also the Investigation Officer (IO) in the case, said.
The victim was rushed to GMCH-32 in Chandigarh, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
“With the help of Umesh, we will soon catch his three runaway accomplices as well,” the officer said, adding that a case of murder and acts committed in furtherance of common intention was lodged against the killers.
