Faizabad, November 12: A man hacked his four minor daughters and wife to death in this Uttar Pradesh district Saturday, police said. He has been arrested.
Even as police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the killings, preliminary investigations indicate a marital dispute could be the reason.
Deenanath Tiwari, 39, killed his wife Shiakali, 37, and four daughters – aged 4-10 years – with an axe at his house in Poorakalandar town.
‘We have learnt that Shiakali had strained relations with Deenanath. He often used to beat Shiakali and his four daughters. It appears Deenanath had a verbal duel with his wife, and thereafter committed the killings in a fit of rage,’ Police Inspector A.K. Mishra told reporters in Faizabad, some 120 km from Lucknow.
‘After hearing shrieks from Tiwari’s house, locals rushed there and spotted the five family members lying in a pool of blood. Before they could be taken to a hospital, all the five had died. Locals caught Deenanath hiding in a corner of the house and handed him to the police,’ he added.
