Man kills self after plot to murder wife fails

Ghaziabad, March 05: In a bizarre incident, a 30-year-old man shot himself after three contract killers hired by him to murder his wife failed in their mission. Two of the three contract killers were arrested.

Naresh Tyagi, a farmer in Bhanera village under Nivari police station, went into hiding for over a week after his wife lodged a police complaint against him and the three contract killers.

Tyagi also feared the ignominy of facing residents of the village and nearby hamlets who had come to know that he had hired contract killers to murder his wife.

Ghaziabad superintendent of police M M Beg said Tyagi married Asha about five years ago. The couple have a two-year-old son. According to relatives and neighbours, the couple were happy and nobody knew of any discord between them.

But, Tyagi was reportedly having an affair with a woman in the village and Asha was strongly opposing the illicit
relationship.

The couple had frequent fights over this. Last month, Tyagi asked three villagers — Manoj, Ravi Singh and Ravi Kumar — to murder his wife. He promised to pay them Rs 30,000 after the
work was done.

On February 22, he took Asha to Khatoli in Muzaffarnagar district on the pretext of taking her to meet some of her relatives. The contract killers travelled with the couple in the same bus. They pretended that they were going to the same place.

In Khatoli, Tyagi asked Asha to wait at a secluded spot saying he had to urgently attend to nature’s call. The trio then strangled Asha at a lonely spot and left her there, presuming she was dead.

But, Asha survived the murder attempt and returned to Nivari, where she lodge a complaint against Tyagi and the three contract killers in the police station.

The police arrested Manoj and Ravi Singh, while Ravi Kumar is absconding. Tyagi too went into hiding after the complaint was lodged by his wife. On Wednesday evening, Bhanera villagers held a panchayat to condemn the action of Tyagi and the contract killers who were hired by him. Soon after, Naresh’s body was found in a field, with a bullet wound in his head. A country-made pistol was found at the spot.

The police said they were hunting for Ravi Kumar, the contract killers who was still absconding.
