Mumbai, May 31: A 20-year-old marine engineer committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his Andheri residence on Saturday night.
According to the police, Vinayak Hotkar, who worked in the Merchant Navy, was in love with a older, married woman. However, his parents objected to the affair. “He met the woman through a common friend,” said a senior officer from DN Nagar police station.
At the time of the incident, Hotkar was alone at home.
The police have recovered a suicide note. “In the note, he asked his parents to inform his lady love,” another officer said.
The officer said that Hotkar wrote that nobody would understand his feelings for the woman and therefore he had decided to end his life.
The police are planning to record the woman’s statement to get further clues in the case. A case of suicide has been registered.
