Tehatta: A man killed his 22-year-old nephew with a scimitar in West Bengal’s Nadia district today during an altercation over spitting.
Police said the two familes live next to each other at Baghakhali and shared a bitter relation.
Gopal Biswas (40), a former BSF personnel, attacked his nephew Pijush Biswas, son of his brother, early today thinking that the young man had spit on the boundary wall between the two houses to spite him.
Pijush, who runs a poultry, was washing his face and hands in the morning and had spit near the boundary wall.
An angry altercation followed during which Gopal rushed to his room and brought out a scimitar, with which he hit at the young man repeatedly, the police said.
Pijush died on the spot and his uncle fled.
Police rushed to the spot on being informed but the locals first obstructed them from taking away the body demanding that the accused be arrested but later relented.
An investigation into the incident has been started, the police said.
Gopal Biswas had attacked his father-in-law with a sharp weapon about three years ago and had spent two years in jail for the crime. He had also attacked his elder brother three months ago.
