Man kills lover after she refuses to give money for liquor

Rajkot, June 19: A man allegedly poisoned his lover after she refused to give him money to buy more liquor in Bhavnagar, police said.

The man was under the influence of liquor when the incident took place.

The man, Usman Rehma Meer, was allegedly having an extramarital affair with Noorjahan Kapadia (35), a mother of two children.

Sources said Noorjahan, a resident of Banuben Ni Waadi, was found unconscious outside the Bhavnagar Civil Hospital on Thursday morning.

The hospital watchman took her inside and got her admitted in the emergency ward. She was identified as Noorjahan, wife of Belim Kapadia, a labourer.

Sources in the hospital said that she responded to treatment and regained consciousness, after which her statement was recorded by the police.

Noorjahan said Usman, an autorickshaw driver in Bhavnagar, forced her to swallow poisonous pills that he had been carrying after she refused to give him money. She died after a brief treatment.

Primary investigation revealed that Noorjahan was having an extramarital affair with Usman for couple of years.

“After forcing her to swallow the pills, Usman got scared and took Noorjahan to civil hospital in his rickshaw. Usman, however, did not admit her but left her outside the gate,” said a police officer.

He added that Noorjahan and Belim’s children also witnessed the incident. “We have recorded their statementso. Their version is similar to what Noorjahan had said before dying in the hospital, said Bhavnagar police.

The police have registered a case of murder against Usman, who is absconding.
