Man killed pregnant wife over extra-marital affair

Ras Al Khaimah, November 24: A man in Ras Al Khaimah, who is accused of murdering his wife after he suspected her of having extra-marital relations with another man, will be sentenced on Thursday. He has been charged of first degree murder.

The suspect, 33, who lives in the UAE without any official document, told the court that his wife became pregnant due to the affair and that he saw love messages sent to her by a stranger on her mobile phone, a court source told.

The official said the Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court will give its verdict today after the family of the wife did not attend the session on Sunday. The murder took place in June this year when the husband allegedly learnt that his 25-year-old Iranian wife had an illicit relationship and got pregnant.

In the court, the husband confessed to his crime and admitted that he killed her to defend his honour and his act was not a premeditated murder as described by the prosecutor.

“I saw the love messages on her mobile phone and description of the relationship,” the husband was quoted as telling the court.

According to the source, the court rejected the defendant’s request for a DNA test of the foetus and also refused to obtain a report about incoming and outgoing calls and short messages of the victim’s mobile phone. The court said this has nothing to do with the subject of the crime.

The suspect is said to have confronted his wife with her extra-marital affair, but she had denied it.

He told the court he threatened his wife with a knife in order to force her to confess and stabbed her at different times following a heated argument, said the court source. The husband said the final argument and the stabbing incident followed repeated warnings by him to stop her from going out with her young female fiend, but she told him that the girl was her friend and she would not end their friendship because of his suspicious nature.

The husband became more suspicious when he found love messages on his wife’s mobile phone,

“The man told the court that he was very nervous when he stabbed his wife and called her parents when he realised that she had died. The court also heard that the woman’s parents took her to Saqr hospital in an attempt to save her life, but she was pronounced dead on arrival, the official added.

The husband then went to Al Ma’amura police station in Ras Al Khaimah and confessed his crime, the official added.

“The man told the judge that he had not intended to kill his wife and that he regrets what he has done.”
