Srinagar, April 30: Violent protests during a separatist sponsored march claimed the life of a government employee in Jammu and Kashmir today as agitators hurled stones at a bus, making it the second such incident in the past two months.
Clashes rocked various parts of the valley after police restrained agitators from marching to the local office of United Nations Military Observers Group (UNMOG) for India and Pakistan at Sonawar here. Separate incidents of violence have left over 20 injured, official sources said.
Violence intensified after Friday prayers even as chairman of hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani was detained and restrictions were placed on the movement of the chairman of the rival faction Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and his close aide Shahid-ul-Islam.
