A bride to be woman and her mother allegedly committed suicide today after her fiance was killed by one of their family members during the engagement function at Cumbum, 40 km from here.
The wedding engagement of 21-year old Meena with Saravanan was being held yesterday when her brother, who did not like the groom, stabbed him with a sharp edged weapon.
Saravanan was rushed to a hospital but died without responding to treatment, police said.
Shocked by the turn of events, Meena and her mother hanged themselves to death in their house, they said.
Neighbours found them dead this morning and informed police. A special team had been formed to nab Meena’s brother.
