Man held for trying to kill estranged wife

New Delhi: A 40-year old man was today arrested for allegedly trying to kill his estranged wife in outer Delhi’s Nangloi.

The incident came to light yesterday when at around 8.30 pm the police were informed about a woman lying with injuries at the Nangloi flyover.

She was rushed to a hospital by passers-by. She was later identified as Ritu, a resident of Nihal Vihar, who works in an clothes factory in Sultanpuri area.

She told the police in her statement that she got married with one Dharmender around 11 years ago. Her husband is addicted to alcohol and whenever she tried to stop him, he used to beat her, the police said.

About two years ago, she decided to leave him and moved out with her daughter. They started living in Nihal Vihar, the police said.

Yesterday, when she was returning from work and had reached near the flyover, she found that her husband was following her. He attacked her from behind using a sickle and fled from the spot.

The accused was arrested from Bighapur village in Uttar Pradesh, the police said, adding the weapon of offence was also recovered.
