Mathura: A person was arrested for allegedly supplying drugs to prisoners at district jail here following which a team of district officials inspected the prison today.
The accused identified as Shankar yesterday tried to meet his two bothers, lodged in the jail while undergoing trial in a murder case, after the visiting hour was over, police said.
Even after repeated request when he was not allowed to meet his brothers, Shankar asked the prison officials to pass on a packet to his two brother, they said.
Upon checking it was found to be charas. Following this Shankar was arrested and 26 gm charas and 358 gm ganja was seized from him. During interrogation he confessed that his brothers were involved in trade of drugs inside jail, police said.
Acting on the information, a team comprising District Judge Dinesh Kuamr Singh, District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar Singh visited the jail.
It was not a surprise raid. The team visited the prison to inspect it and directed the jail administration to further tighten the security measures, the District Magistrate said.
