Man held for killing wife

New Delhi, April 25: A year after a woman’s disfigured body was found in a field here, her husband was arrested for killing her as he suspected her fidelity, police said Monday.

Ravi Singh, 21, was arrested from Nangloi area of west Delhi.

Ravi, a resident of Chanchal Park in Nangloi in west Delhi, killed his wife Sonia in a field near Chhawla area of west Delhi and dumped her body there, Deputy Commissioner of police Ashok Chand told reporters.

After the murder, Ravi went back to his home and spread the rumour that Sonia had run away.

The body was recovered by police Aug 8, 2010.

“The girl was found to have injuries on the back of her head and her throat was slit. An attempt to disfigure her face to prevent identification was also made,” Chand said.

During interrogation, Ravi told police that both of them had married in 2008 after eloping to his ancestral house in Badayun, Uttar Pradesh, as Sonia’s parents were against the match.

However, they started fighting within a few months of their marriage as Sonia developed intimacy with one of his distant relatives.

He also suspected Sonia’s role in the elopment of his sister.

“Ravi had developed tremendous animosity towards Sonia because of her infidelity and decided to eliminate her,” Chand said.

“He took her on his motorcycle to the place and hit her head with a stone. Then he dragged her body to the nearby fields and slit her throat with a sharp edged weapon. He also tried to disfigure her face,” he added.
