Man held for bigamy

Hyderabad, June 17: A car driver, Shankar Naik, who married four women in the last eight years, was arrested for bigamy in Kandukur in Greater Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Eight years ago, Shankar Naik alias Chandu, 33, of Kandukur, married one Bujji of Harshagudem. Due to ill health, Bujji died after two years and Shankar married one Devi of Maheswaram. Devi did not stay with Shankar for long. She got separated from him and married another person.

Three years ago, Shankar married one Sharada of Maddur Tanda and the couple have an 18-month-old daughter.

However, recently, Shankar married another woman, Devi, of Satamrahi.

On Tuesday, Sharada approached Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA)police alleging that Shankar remarried and has been physically harassing her when she asked him to mend his ways.

Police registered a case under Sections 494 (Marrying again in the lifetime of a husband or wife), 495 (Marrying again with concealment of the former marriage) and 498-A (Punishment for subjecting married woman to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested him.
