Man hangs self, wife found murdered in Delhi home

New Delhi, July 01: The body of a 32-year-old man was Wednesday found hanging from the ceiling with injury marks while his wife’s body was found in the same room of their home in west Delhi, police said.

Ashwini Kumar alias Sonu’s body was hanging from the ceiling fan with blood dripping from his wrist and neck in his Nihar Vihar house and his wife Shweta lay dead on the bed in the same room, police said.

The couple’s two sons, Hunny, 6, and Sunny, 4, first saw them and informed the neighbours.

The bodies were taken to a government hospital where the husband and wife were declared brought dead.

The police said they both had strong arguments in front of their children late Tuesday as Shweta, who was in a private job, reportedly returned home after four days.

“The children said Ashwini, who was in a dye business, scolded his wife and they had a bitter argument,” said an investigating officer.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Sharad Aggarwal said: “From the preliminary investigations, it is clear that Ashwini had committed suicide. He has also cut his wrist and neck before hanging himself. We are not sure about his wife as her post-mortem report is still awaited. There was no external injury marks on her body.”

Police said they were suspecting that Ashwini might have chocked his wife to death before taking his own life.

Their family, however, could not believe that the couple did not have healthy ties.

“She never told us about any argument or tiff with her husband over any issue. We do not know what made them take such an extreme step,” said Shweta’s brother Sunil.
