Nalgonda, August 04: Cruelty to wives was on display in Nalgonda and Karimnagar districts, with one woman hacked to death and the other is struggling for life after being set ablaze.
In Nalgonda, Sheikh Hussain attempted to kill his wife Sheikh Jameela (22) by dousing her in kerosene and setting her afire at Bottuguda street in Nalgonda town. Jameela was hospitalised with 90 per cent burns.
Jameela, a native of Karampoodi in Guntur district married Hussain, four years ago. The trouble started when Hussain’s younger brother-in-law got married. Hussain has been working in a jewellery shop owned by another brother-in-law in Nalgonda town for the last one year.
On the occasion of marriage, Jameela’s parents promised to give Rs 10,000 as gift to their daughter.
But Hussain demanded that the money should be given to him. However, Jameela’s parents refused to do so in view of Hussain’s addictions.
An irked Hussain began harassing his wife for the money. A heated argument on the same issue took place between Hussain and his in-laws on Sunday when the latter visited their daughter’s house. They suggested that they would deposit the money in the bank in a joint account and left Hussain’s house.
Hussain picked up another argument with his wife in the night and in a fit of rage doused her in kerosene and set her afire.
Suffering 90 per cent burns, she was admitted to Nalgonda government hospital and her condition was stated to be critical.
Knowing of the development, Jameela’s parents lodged a complaint with the police. I Town SI Majeed Khan registered a case and investigation is on. Meanwhile, a married woman was hacked to death by her husband at Kolanoor in Odela mandal, Karimnagar district, in the wee hours of Monday.
According to the police, K Sammaiah, a railway employee, got married to Manasa (25), a native of Kanagarthi village, few years ago. They have a son Karthik.
While Manasa’s father Narsaiah lodged a complaint in Odela police station that his sonin- law killed his daughter for dowry, Sammaiah alleged that his wife was having an illicit affair with one of their neighbours, for the last few months.
Claiming to have given Rs 1 lakh dowry to Sammaiah at the time of marriage, Narsaiah said his son-in-law has been harassing his daughter demanding for another Rs 1 lakh.
However, sources said that Sammaiah, while getting ready for his work, had an argument with his wife over the illicit affair during which he got angry and hit Manasa, who was busy cooking, with an axe nearby killing her on the spot.
Police found three injury marks on Manasa’s neck. A case has been registered and Sammaiah was arrested.
