Araria (Bihar): A court here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment after finding him guilty in the rape and murder case of a woman two years ago.
Additional District Judge (ADJ) Shashidhar Vishwakarma passed the order after finding accused Rajesh Bahadahar guilty in the rape and murder case of a woman who was the warden of Kasturba Gandhi Residential School in Palasi block here in the district.
The judge also imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000 on the convict.
According to Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Laxmi Narayan Yadav, the convict had taken the victim in an autorickshaw to an isolated place near a bridge at Belwa ghat of the Anar river under Araria police station on September 8, 2014 where he raped her before murdering her with a sharp object and threw the body into the river.
The convict had also taken away the victim’s mobile phone, but the SIM card was later found in the possession of the convict’s brother on the basis of CDR details, Yadav said, adding that the police subsequently arrested the accused on the basis of information provided by his brother.
The case had caused a furore with the media reporting it extensively.
