New Delhi, March 11: A Delhi court sentenced a man to life term for killing his acquaintance following a petty dispute three years ago.
Additional Sessions Judge Poonam Chaudhary also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on Faisal Khan after holding him guilty under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC.
The court relied upon the statements of two friends, common to the accused and deceased Jamaal, who testified that the accused had picked up fight with Jamaal over a petty issue and inflicted stab injury on him.
It rejected a plea of the prosecution to award capital punishment to the convict saying the manner in which only one injury was inflicted upon the deceased it could not be described as brutal and rarest of rare.
Khan was arrested after a case was registered with Chandni Chowk police station after the murder of Jamaal on May 15, 2007.
