Fujairah, June 15: A court here has sentenced a UAE national to capital punishment for murdering his wife.
The ruling was pronounced by Presiding Judge of the Fujairah Criminal Court of First Instance Saeed Abdullah Masoud on Sunday.
The incidents leading to the case started in July last year when the Dibba Fujairah police station was informed by the defendant that his wife had gone missing.
The Criminal Investigation Department formed a team and conducted searches in many areas. As they combed the Roll Dedna area, a farmer reported that he had come across bloodstains in a well in the area.
The maimed body of a woman in her twenties was found in the well. Later, it was identified as that of the missing woman.
The investigation team learnt that the couple had domestic disputes since they got married around four months ago. The man denied any connection with the crime during interrogation.
However, after intensive interrogation, the criminal collapsed and confessed to killing his wife.
He said he took the woman to a farm in Roll Dedna. “I beat her up with my hands till she lost consciousness. I poured acid, which I had brought in a bottle, on her. As I was not fully sure that she had died, I smashed her head with a big stone and threw the body into the old and unused well.”
He then sent an SMS from the victim’s mobile phone to his phone to misdirect the police in any future investigation. The message read that she had left home and did not like to live with her husband any longer.
He then threw the victim’s phone into the sea.
The prosecution charged him with intentionally killing his wife. The court found him guilty and handed down the death sentence.
