New Delhi, April 01: A court here today sentenced a man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for stabbing to death a woman last year, holding him guilty for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Convict Mahseh Singh, who was initially charged with the offence of murder, was convicted under milder penal provision as the court held that he did not intend to kill.
“The accused was not armed with a deadly weapon and had given one stab blow (by a kitchen knife) on the deceased…and there was no prior hostility between them,” District and Sessions Judge S P Garg said while holding Mahesh guilty under section 304-I (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on the convict, a resident of Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh.
