A 74-year-old M.A. Qayoom from Patna, Bihar has built his own grave inside his residence so that he can be rested in peace after his demise.
According to a report published in Sunday’ Mailtoday, he got the grave dug up for himself about 20 years ago while he was laying the foundation of his house. “I wanted to be buried inside my house after my death,” Qayoom said.
He is living alone and does not know whether the people he knows would be there to lower his body into the grave but 7×4 feet grave is ready in the basement of his house.
Mailtoday quoted him saying that, “ My home is where I have got the maximum peace of mind. I want to rest in peace here.” Death, however, has not visited him all these years. He firmly believes that death is in the hands of the Almighty alone. “ We have no control over life and death,” he said.
“ It is all in Allah’s hands.” Qayoom goes into his self-made ‘ graveyard’ everyday and spends some time there.
Qayoom spends his time offering Salah and praying in a room built alongside the “grave room”. “ I have studied only till Class V but I read all the religious books,” he said.
However, the local clerics termed it un-Islamic and said it is against Islamic teachings to have one’s grave inside a house.
