Man dies of hunger in Madhya Pradesh, probe ordered

Tikamgarh (Madhya Pradesh): Tikamgarh district incharge minister Rustam Singh has asked the local administration to conduct an inquiry into the death of an old man reportedly due to hunger.

The body of 70-year-old Lakhan Dubey, a resident of Patra village of the district, was found in his house. He used to stay alone and eat whatever he would get from villagers.

According to the villagers, Dubey had not come out of his house for the last 10 days. When there was no response to people’s calls, they became suspicious and forcefully entered his house. He was lying dead inside.

A villager, Kaushal Kishor, said: “We believe that Lakhan Dubey died due to hunger, as he hadn’t asked for food from us for the last several days. He was unmarried and other member of his family were out to their places of work. He didn’t even have any land.”

The villagers informed police about Dubey’s death. They came and got the body cremated without even conducting an autopsy.

Tikamgrh Superintendent of Police Nimish Agrawal said he has instructed his subordinates to visit the village to get to the truth of his death.
