Man dies in fire while sleeping

Dubai, February 04: A 47-year-old Emirati died in a massive fire that destroyed his house located in Al Dhait area here on Wednesday morning.
The Emirati, who was burnt to death, was sleeping when the fire broke out at his house around 4.50am and gutted the entire house.

Five Asian workers who stay in the nearby accommodation tried to save him by fighting the fire before the firefighters arrived, but in vain due to the thick smoke coming from the house.

Col Mohammed Abdullah Al Zaabi, Chief of the Civil Defence Department, the firefighters managed to put out the blaze but, by then, the victim had already died. He was alone in his house. The Police transferred the body to Saqr Hospital.

Col Al Zaabi said that the fire started from the neighbouring house that belonged to the victim’s brother. The two houses were annexed but there was no one at the brother’s house. The police are still investigating the case to establish the cause of the fire.

In separate incidents on Thursday, nine people sustained injuries in road accidents. The Police attributed the accidents to the current poor weather conditions and urged motorists to drive carefully
