Man dies after shanty catches fire in UP

A 27-year-old man died after his shanty allegedly caught fire with his wife and a relative battling for life in Gadan Pur village here, police said today.

Munnesh died and his wife Geeta (25) was severely injured after their hut caught fire at Gadan Pur village in Kotwali police station area yesterday after a kerosene oil lamp fell down in the house due to high winds while the couple was asleep, they said.

Rameswar, a relative of the family who rushed to save the couple also sustained serious injuries in the incident, police said.

The trio was taken to the nearby hospital where Muneesh died while the other two are in serious condition, they said.

The couple has three children, police added.

In another incident, a man died after allegedly the walls of his house collapsed in Nagla Chola village here, police said today.

Rajpal died after the walls of his house collapsed in Nagla Chola village under Kotwali Marehra police station area yesterday, they added.
