Man dies 2 days after lodging FIR, kin blame police

Chandigarh, Nov 09: Following the death of New Indira Colony resident on Sunday morning, the relatives of the deceased have come forward stating that the 60-year-old had died of “shock”.

Gajaraj was reportedly upset as the police failed to take action on his complaint that several youths were harassing his daughter. The deceased had lodged the complaint on Friday but the four accused were freed instantly after the arrest. This apparently became the cause of Gajaran’s distress.

On the other hand, the police said relevant action was taken on the complaint. “We arrested a boy on Gajaran’s complaint and noted down the names of the other boys as well. As I was busy on another spot on Saturday, I could not follow up the case, and meanwhile Gajaran died today,” said Sub-Inspector Gurbax Singh, who is investigating the matter. He added that the deceased had been suffering from kidney and heart problems since 10 years.

Station House Officer of the Manimajra police station Pratap Singh said the police would also investigate the cause of the death of Gajaran.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (East) also visited New Indira Colony in order to pacify the relatives of the deceased.
