New Delhi: A 24-year-old son of a Delhi police constable attacked a 17-year-old girl at her house in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri on Friday with a kitchen knife, police said.
The accused Rahul Kumar a friend of the victim, barged into the girl’s residence when she was alone at home and slit her throat for pressuring him to marry her.
The girl ran out screaming for help and collapsed outside her house due to excessive bleeding. Rahul panicked and fled the crime scene with the knife. The girl’s cousin who lives on the first floor of the same building rushed to her help.
The police was informed about the crime and the girl was taken to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. She received 18 stitches and is in critical condition.
Rahul Kumar was arrested within three hours of the crime. The knife was recovered from a public toilet where he had hidden it.
During interrogation Rahul allegedly said that the girl had been threatening him that she would file a rape case against him if he did not marry her.
A police officer said .“According to Kumar, the girl wanted to get married to him but he didn’t want to do so as he was unemployed. However, we are waiting for the girl’s statement, after which we will be able to ascertain the motive behind the attack.”
However the girl’s family rejected claims that she was in a relationship with Rahul. They said he has harassed the victim earlier also. “On Holi, he had flung chilli powder at my sister and some other girls while they were on their way back from school. He had also called up our elder sister Thursday night and claimed that he was calling from Punjab,” said her brother.
A case has been registered against the accused on charges of attempt to murder. More charges will be added to the FIR after police record the victim’s statement.
