Man in Delhi held for attacking woman journalist

New Delhi: The Delhi Police have arrested a 22-year-old man on Friday for attacking a woman journalist Aparna Kalra.

The accused, Sanjay, tried to sexually assault Kalra when she had gone for her routine walk to Picnic Hut, a park at northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar.

He was attracted to Kalra when she spurned his advances. He attacked her with a stone. As Kalra raised an alarm, the accused fled.

Following the attack, she was taken to Deep Chand Bandhu Government Hospital in an injured and severely bleeding condition. Kalra was later referred to Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh, where she underwent cranial surgery.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Northern Range) Rajesh Khurana said. “Sanjay is a school dropout and works in a factory producing nail paint. There are no indications of any sexual assault.”
One of the police officer said that. “He confessed that he had seen Kalra at the park around 8-10 times and was infatuated with her. He accosted Kalra to talk to him, with a view to befriend her, but in vain. In a fit of rage, he attacked her with a stone.”
