Man conned out of 70K after asking for a refund of Rs. 200

Hyderabad: In a recent case reported at the Cyber Crime Police Station under Cyberabad Commissionerate, a complainant placed an online order for Rs. 200 worth of sweets from a popular food delivery application.

Upon receiving the food, he found it stenchy which prompted him to Google the customer care service for that food application.

Over a telephonic conversation, the customer asked them the anticipation of the return of sweets and the amount of Rs.200 to him, then the customer care service asked him to send his bank credentials including confidential UPI PIN number. Believing that the company would return his money he shared the bank details with customer care service instead of Rs. 200 the man lost Rs. 70,000 from his bank account.

Via a telephone conversation, the customer asked the impostors posing as customer care representatives to take back the order and an Rs. 200 refund.

Fake Google customer care representatives

According to the Cyberabad Police, online fraudsters are hosting fake web portals of well-known companies on Google search engine. This is how they fooled customers for lakhs of rupees by posing as actual customer care providers for the company.

Further, police explain that the fraudsters by offering customer care service they are looting the customers, even Google has no control over the genuineness of the sites.

Furthermore, the police explain that even Google has no oversight regarding the genuineness of these sites as the fraudsters con customers. Searching for these customer care service contact numbers on Google leads one to such fake websites that offer these services to well-known companies.

When these people with complaints divulge their bank details in hopes of receiving refunds, it is only their money which these swindlers loot.
