Man commits suicide at south Delhi hospital

New Delhi: A cancer patient on Friday allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the third floor of a hospital in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj.

Atma Ram was admitted to Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences Hospital on January 6, police said.

“Today at 1.42 am, a PCR call was received about the suicide of Atma Ram,” a police officer said.

He said at around 1:00 am Atma Ram sent his wife to call his brother Harlal. When his wife went outside to call his brother, he went up to the third floor of the hospital and jumped from there, police said.

He immediately died due to head injuries.

The officer said no foul play was suspected and the account of the incident was corroborated by eyewitnesses.

No suicide note was found and the police was talking to family members to ascertain the reason for Atma Ram taking the extreme step.

He was a resident of Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh.
