On Thursday, a 23-year-old man, who was reportedly carrying Rs 11 lakh in cash, has gone “missing” from Kumaraswamy Layout police limits.
Police have identified the person as Shashi Kumar, son of Appaji Gowda, who works in the zilla panchayat office on Kanakapura Road.
Though Kumar’s family claimed that he might have been abducted, police suspect that he went on his own as the cash belonged to his father.
According to the police, Kumar, who was a college dropout, was last seen waiting in a car at the ZP office parking lot. He was given Rs 11 lakh in cash by his uncle who told him to hand over the money to his father. Soon after, Kumar’s uncle went to meet Gowda.
When Kumar’s uncle and Gowda returned to the parking lot, they found the car missing. Gowda made an effort to contact his son on mobile but it was switched off. He without more ado alerted the KS Layout police, stating that his son had been kidnapped.
The KS Layout police rushed to the spot amd traced the car to the parking lot at Satellite bus station on Mysore Road and found the mobile phone on one of the seats. The police searched the car and did not find any clue of him being kidnapped.
A senior police officer said, “We suspect that Kumar might have taken a bus to go out of station and we have sent several teams to temples in the State and to his native place in Maddur.”
