Ahmedabad, January 13: A 24-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for withdrawing money with an ATM card he found outside an SBI ATM at Khadia. A retired pensioner had reportedly lost his ATM card last week and lost Rs 10,000.
The Danilimbda police arrested Gaurang Solanki on the basis of the transaction number. He, too, had an account in the same bank.
The police said, Manhar Shah (60) lost his card between January 5 and 8. On January 8, he received a message stating that Rs 10, 000 was withdrawn from his account. Not finding his card, he rushed to the SBI branch at Khadia and found that someone had withdrawn the money.
Inspector M M Vasava said, “Shah had written the password on the card. We checked the CCTV footage and found a man withdrawing money twice on the same day from the ATM. In one transaction, his face was not visible, but was clear in the second one.We found out his bank details .”
He said in the first transaction (No-22) in the bank records, the accused withdrew money from his own account. In transaction no-42, he withdrew money from Shah’s account. “We got his residential address and arrested him,” Vasava said. Solanki has been booked in a theft case.
