A man was today charged of rape for allegedly impregnating a 40-year-old divorced woman on the pretext of marriage, police said. In her complaint, the woman has alleged that the accused had been delaying marriage despite having impregnated her, Investigating Officer Assistant-Sub-Inspector Nishan Singh said. The accused was married when he met the victim in Jalandhar while both were working at a private company. They shifted here after he separated from his wife. The woman approached Police Commissioner Ram Singh today, who immediately ordered an inquiry into the matter. The accused, against whom a case of rape has been booked, has still not been arrested since police is still awaiting for final medical reports. PTI
