Man beaten to death over election enmity

Muzaffarnagar: A man was beaten to death allegedly over election rivalry, following which locals protested with his body at Hashimpur village in the district, police said today.

The deceased Ajay, son of a local Sugarcane Co-operative society director, was killed yesterday. A case has been registered against five people including ex-block pramukh Padam Singh, his father Sadey Ram, son Parbhat, gram pradhan Asarampal and Kuch Singh, said SP (Crime) Rakesh Jolly.

All of them are absconding and efforts are on to nab them. Rivalry during the Panchayat elections was stated to be the reason behind the murder.

Senior police officials pacified irate villagers protesting with Ajay’s body which was sent for postmortem, Jolly said.

Security has been tightened in the village.
