Allahabad, December 18: A local court here today awarded death sentence to a man accused of having murdered his wife and six-year-old daughter three years ago over the demand for dowry.
The order was passed by Additional District and Sessions Judge Shyamlal, who awarded death sentence to Ram Samujh Yadav, a resident of Kharnayeepur village in Baharia police station area of the district.
Yadav had married Soni of neighbouring Pratapgarh district in 2000 and had been harassing her for a motorcycle and a golden chain in dowry.
The demand and harassment continued even after the birth of a girl and on the intervening night of September 10-11, 2006, Yadav killed his wife and daughter and dumped their bodies into a nearby pond.
