Man attempts suicide at district collectorate

Hyderabad, August 10: One person tried to commit suicide when a weekly public contact programme ‘Mee Kosam’ was being held at the collectorate in presence of Hyderabad district collector Natarajan Gulzar on Monday.

The person, B Krishna claimed he had bought 420 sq yards of land in survey no 57/2 at Kanthabai basti in Trimulgherry in 1999. He alleged that district officials however declared it as government land. When the contact programme was underway, Krishna briefed the district collector about the land dispute. When Gulzar explained he could do nothing as the land was under the possession of Andhra Pradesh State Cooperative Bank, Krishna lost his cool and consumed sleeping pills.

“I have five daughters and a wife. I bought the land after taking huge loans but ended up in trouble as officials are not paying any attention to my problem. Neither are they regularising the land nor issuing me the NOC,” Krishna said. He said he had run from pillar to post visiting previous collectors RV Chandravadan and Naveen Mittal to seek their help but to no avail.

Krishna was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital and his condition is said to be stable. When contacted Hyderabad district officials told Express that Krishna claimed he had applied for regularisation. “But during verification of records, it was found that the application for regularisation had been rejected long time back,’’ officials said.
