New Delhi: A teenage girl was hospitalised after she was hit by a man with a glass bottle on her head for turning down his marriage proposal in north Delhi’s Burari area, police said today.
The 17-year-old girl, a resident of northwest Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar area, was found lying injured on roadside in Burari, said a senior police officer.
The accused, who lives in the same area as the victim, has been detained and has confessed to hitting the girl with the bottle, he said.
The girl’s family has claimed that the accused used to stalk her and was angry since she had refused to marry him, the police officer said.
Yesterday the victim’s family filed a complaint at Swaroop Nagar police station after she did not return home and was later found lying with injuries on the roadside in Burari.
The girl is currently in hospital where her condition is critical.
Police said they were yet to establish the sequence of events leading to the attack and how the girl reached Burari.
The girl’s statement is yet to be recorded, police said while they have recovered the broken beer bottle from the incident spot.
