Man arrested for threatening witness in Naroda case

Ahmedabad, April 09: A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening a 2002 riot witness in the Naroda Patiya case, which is being investigated by the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT), police said today.

Rajendra Rajput was arrested yesterday from Sherkotda area of the city following a complaint filed by Siddiq Mansuri with the SIT’s Witness Protection Cell (WPC), they said.

According to SIT sources, Mansuri’s complaint had stated that some people had come on motorcycle and threatened him with dire consequences if he spoke against some of the accused in the court.

The WPC sent the complaint to Sherkotda police station who then investigated the matter, they said.

Mansuri did not know Rajput, but was able to identify him when the police showed him his photograph, they added.

Police arrested Rajput and is interrogating him.
