New Delhi: The Delhi crime branch arrested a transport company owner in Punjab for allegedly raping a German girl in Germany 12 years ago when he was illegally living there.
Jaswant Singh lived in Germany from 1992 to 1997. He worked as a cook in a hotel. There he befriended Karan Singh and Mohammad Shahzad. On August 2, 1997, the trio spotted a 17-year-old girl walking alone after she had missed her train. They dragged her to a nearby park and raped her. Later, they beat her up.
The victim reported the matter to the German police. Karan Singh and Shahzad were arrested and sentenced to 10 and eight years in prison respectively. Jaswant managed to flee Germany and returned to India.
As he was living illegally in Germany, the German Police could not trace him. The Germany embassy gave details of the case to the crime branch in 2008. Finally, Singh was caught by crime branch sleuths on Sunday.
