Man arrested for laptop-theft splurge

Prakasam district police detained a thief and recovered 16 laptops from him.

According to District Superintendent of police P Pramod Kumar, the accused, Isampalli Lakshman Kumar of Visakhapatnam, had been stealing laptops while travelling as a passenger in night service buses. Previously, he was arrested in Hyderabad and sent to judicial remand. In spite of the fact that, he is on bail, Lakshman picked up wherehe left off the thefts.

When other passengers were fast sleep, Kumar would get down the bus with the laptop bags. After reaching his destination, he produced fake bills and put up the laptops for sale in the black market.
With complaints of laptop thefts bucketing in from the Ongole route, town DSP P Joshua inquired about it with the other district police officers and became suspicious about the involvement of Kumar.

The DSP then formed a special team, headed by the Rural Inspector I Srinivasan and a CCS squad to arrest Kumar. On Saturday night, police teams caught him in a bus near Ongole.
As per DSP, Kumar confessed to the crime during interrogation. About 16 latest model laptops, one ipad, 11 phones, four hard discs of computers and gold ornaments weighing 18 grams were recovered from his possession, DSP said.
