Man alleges assault by doctor, security guards at GMCH-32

Chandigarh, August 06: An attendant with a patient at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, was allegedly roughed up by security guards and the emergency medical officer (EMO) of the hospital on Wednesday.

Badri Prasad, (52), a resident of Sector 48, had gone to the hospital with his son, Nikhil, who was undergoing treatment at the Psychiatry department. Around noon, Badri said he was asked to get a new registration card from the emergency ward as the counters for OPD cards had already shut down.

He alleged that EMO Dr Tanvir refused to issue a new OPD card to him and when he insisted, the doctor allegedly got enraged and asked the security guards to throw him out.

“Security guards Harjit and Kulbir started hitting me. Then I was taken to a room where both the security guards caught hold of me while Dr Tanvir slapped and punched me,” alleged Badri.

The hospital authorities, when contacted, said the matter was brought to their notice and Dr Tanvir had denied manhandling Badri.

“According to Dr Tanvir, the complainant hit the security personnel when he was asked to leave following which the guards retaliated and thrashed him,” said Dr Kaushal.

SHO of the Sector-34 police station, Inspector Sudarshan, said the medical examination of the security guards and Badri was conducted at Government Multispecialty Hospital, Sector 16, and no case was registered yet as investigations are still on.
