Man accused of molesting child on street

Dubai, March 25: Two police officers caught a worker allegedly molesting a four-year-old girl on the street, a court heard. The worker, a 28-year-old Pakistani national, was on trial on Tuesday in the Court of First Instance.

He is accused of molesting the girl by caressing and groping her and making her touch him.

An Emirati policeman, told the prosecutor that he was patrolling with his colleague in a street in Al Qusais on January 12 when they spotted the defendant.

He said the defendant caught their attention as he was standing on the pavement and holding a girl aged about four to five years.

“There was another girl standing next to him and hitting him on his leg,” the policeman said.

Then the defendant sat on the pavement, the cop added, and made the girl sit on his leg as he was holding her. “Her face was facing the street. The other girl was still hitting him.”

The policemen then headed towards the accused.

“The moment we stepped out of the patrol car, the two girls ran away, while the defendant stood scared and tense,” the policeman elaborated. When confronted by the policeman, the worker denied having done anything to her. He claimed he was playing with her, the policeman said.

However, the defendant later admitted that he made her sit on his lap on purpose. The defendant was taken to Al Qusais police station.

The policeman also said that he noticed the girl pushing the man away while she was seated on his lap. She was hitting him on his hand.

The other policeman gave a similar statement.

During interrogations, the defendant admitted that he had molested the girl.

The court has adjourned the hearing until next month for the defense to prepare his arguments.
