Man with $1.5 mn watch held at Moscow airport

A man was held Monday at a Russian airport carrying a diamond-encrusted gold watch worth around 54 million rubles (over $1.5 million) in his hand luggage.

Customs officials at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport detained a Russian traveller carrying a gold watch worth 54.5 million rubles in his hand luggage, said the Federal Customs Service.

The man passed through the “Nothing to Declare” customs corridor instead of filing a declaration and paying 30 percent of the cost of the diamond-encrusted Jacob & Co Rainbow Tourbillon watch.

The passenger said he had received the watch as a gift in the US and was unaware of its actual cost, a release from the customs service said.
