Kolkata, April 03:Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has urged the
Centre to declare national Holiday tomorrow to honour Team India’s
glorious victory in the World Cup.
According to reports, Ms Bannerjee talked to Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee over phone last night after India’s historic win and requested him to convince Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in this regard.
Congratulating the Indian cricket team Ms Bannerjee said, “The Indian cricket team has conquered the world.” “As it was said, Indians can use their minds without fear and hold their head high,” the jubilant Trinamool Congress chief maintained.
In line with the state-wide celebrations, frenzied cricket fans went wild with joy and came out on the road adjoining Mamata Banerjee’s residence to celebrate the much-awaited World Cup victory.
There were reports of celebrations pouring in from different parts of Kolkata too where overjoyed fans bursted fire crackers, danced to drumbeats, took out victory processions waving the Tricolour and shouting slogans for a triumphant India.
